We get back to my Gran’s just before the sun rises and luckily before Gran is up. Hendrix and I sneak up to my room and steal away for the second-level balcony where we cuddle up under a comforter and watch the sunrise. After the night we’ve had it’s nice just being in the moment, finding peace in the early morning, and not even thinking about that damn pie. Though I can’t help but laugh when I think about the look on Miss Evelyn’s face when she opens her front door for the morning paper only to find that damn pie.

Hendrix pulls the blanket around us tighter as we settle comfortably into the porch swing bed. I sigh happily. This is what vacation is supposed to be like. Not fighting over something as ridiculous as a pie or why I didn’t get back together with Easton.

“You know, this has me thinking,” Hendrix says. “Where do you want to have the baby?”

I shrug. “I’m not sure. I mean, it would be amazing to have him or her here, but I don’t even want to imagine the hell firestorm that would stir up in these parts,” I laugh.

“Can you imagine Easton’s face when he finds out that you’re pregnant by me?” He laughs and runs his fingers through my hair. “If you thought the dude hated me already, wait until he sees that glorious ever-growing baby bump.”

“I think if looks could kill, you and I would already be dead from Easton and Miss Evelyn’s glare.”

“The plus side of having the baby here is that Doctor Vogel seems to adore you,” Hendrix says. “Not to mention the fact that he seems like a top-notch doctor.”

“He’s wonderful,” I admit. “One of the best in the state.”

“So,” he starts, “having the baby in South Carolina means that you get an amazing doctor that you love.”

I give him a sleepy little nod.

“Again, I’m not the most fluent in pregnancy anything but when it comes to the business of having babies it seems like you would want a doctor that you are comfortable with and it seems like you are very comfortable with Doctor Vogel.”

I laugh very softly as I feel myself becoming the most relaxed that I have in weeks. “Well, it helps that Doctor Vogel has been my doctor since I was fourteen.”

“Doesn’t that feel like a good reason to have the baby here?” He rests a warm hand on one of my cheeks.

“Point made,” I tell him, yawning.

“Sounds like someone is tired,” he chuckles.

“Well, growing this baby is exhausting,” I tell him.

He laughs softly, tightening his arms around me. “Not to mention the fact that I did wake you up to discuss names.”

“Oh, yes,” I say, softly closing my eyes. “How could I forget Axl Bonham?”

“Is that your favorite so far?”

I feel myself falling into a half asleep daze as I reply. “I love Maverick Cash and Jett for a girl too.”

“Baby, should we go into your room?”

“No, I’m so comfortable.”

“Aren’t you cold?”

I shake my head but I find that I can’t even open my mouth to reply.
